Balanced Diet – The First Ingredient Towards Optimal Health

Food is any material consumed in order to provide nutrition to an organisms. Food is generally of animal, plant or fungi origin, and has necessary nutrients, including proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, or other minerals. The human body needs a good amount of food in order to maintain its health and growth. Many types of food are consumed daily by people in order to meet the demands of their body.

Plants produce food through photosynthesis, which involves the process of converting light into food. Some types of food are more well-known than others and are the most nutritious; examples of such food sources include nuts, beans, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Nuts and seeds are considered to be good dietary choices because they contain necessary nutrients in high quantities, such as protein, fat, and calcium. Other types of food that are recommended for nutrition and diet are dairy products (mainly milk and cheese), green leafy vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Legumes, green leafy vegetables, and whole grains are excellent food sources of zinc, iron, and other minerals that are essential for good nutrition.

A healthy lifestyle encourages eating a balanced diet rich in all the essential food types. Regular exercise keeps the metabolism boosting and prevents many diseases. A healthy lifestyle is also important because it helps to improve digestion and absorption of nutrients from the food consumed. A balanced diet is the best way to keep away from poor nutrition and disease. All these factors work together in keeping a person free from ill health and living a healthy life.
